MSC Foundation embarks on a new school year of Educational Programmes with Marevivo
Looking back on the success of last year’s Nauticinblu and Guardian Dolphins programmes, we also look forward to the new school year’s exciting developments
Focus areas: Education, Environmental Conservation, Marine Conservation
In a world facing pressing pollution and global heating challenges, action to educate youth is a proactive step towards building a brighter, more sustainable future. Which is why MSC is a longstanding partner of two Marevivo educational programmes – Nauticinblu and Guardian Dolphins.
Nauticinblu has been making a significant impact on young minds across Italy. Last year, it informed and inspired over 1,000 students at 13 Nautical Institute secondary schools across the country. What’s more, it also took its first step outside Italy, reaching Barcelona in Spain.
The students benefited from a wide range of class and field activities designed to complement their technical curriculum with practical knowledge about climate change, marine biodiversity and conservation. From cleaning up beaches to delving deep into the enchanting world of sea turtles, they were guided by specialist biologists who shared their passion and expert knowledge, fostering a strong, active sense of environmental responsibility.
Looking to the months ahead, Nauticinblu will continue its international growth, expanding beyond Italy and Spain to Greece and Portugal. This exciting development means that students from a total of 4 European countries will have the opportunity to engage with this transformative programme. The ripple effect of knowledge and awareness is spreading, empowering the next generation to become responsible stewards of our blue planet.
Guardian Dolphins, is an equally pioneering initiative for the primary school children on Italy’s minor islands.
Last year, over 1,400 primary school students completed its educational journey on the islands of Elba, Lipari, Vulcano, Salina, Stromboli, Panarea, Filicudi, Alicudi, Favignana, Marettimo and Ustica, as well as in the town of Milazzo, Sicily. Together in their communities, they took part in a wide spectrum of activities focused on raising environmental awareness.
Hands-on beach clean-ups and waste cataloguing taught the importance of keeping our coastlines unspoiled. While unforgettable voyages aboard the Stella Polare sailing ship, generously provided by the Italian Navy, brought the students closer to the sea's beauty and mysteries.
The programme even explored the waters of the Capo Milazzo Marine Protected Area, raising awareness of the harm caused by single-use packaging.
With the start of the new school year, the Guardian Dolphins Programme is also set to grow, inspiring more young minds as it extends to a further 2 Islands: Caprera and La Maddalena.
The MSC Foundation is passionately dedicated to nurturing young stewards of the sea, empowering them with knowledge and a deep sense of responsibility. These initiatives exemplify our commitment to making a meaningful difference and building a brighter, more sustainable future.
