Frequently Asked Questions

The MSC Foundation was established to lead, focus and advance the MSC Group’s conservation and humanitarian commitments. Aiming to restore the critical balance between people and nature, we utilise MSC’s global reach and unique knowledge of the sea to take immediate action to protect and nurture the blue planet and its peoples. We help disaster-struck populations toward recovery and support vulnerable communities around the world to realise their full potential through education, sustainable development and medical humanitarian projects. We work to achieve this both independently and in conjunction with trusted partners that have a strong innovative vision or track record for effective action.

The Aponte family is passionate about the projects we support. They felt that creating an entity which commits 100% of its energy, efforts and resources to these initiatives would empower even deeper and wider change.

Our mission is to utilise MSC’s global reach and unique knowledge of the sea to take immediate action that contributes to protecting and nurturing the blue planet and all its people.

Our vision is to restore the critical balance between people and nature within a generation.

Yes, we have close longstanding partnerships with UNICEF - funding projects that have saved 100,000 young lives, with the Andrea Bocelli Foundation - supporting their life-changing work in Haiti and financing their mobile clinic, with Marevivo - protecting the seas, raising awareness and training the mariners of the future, and with Mercy Ships - supporting their hospital ships to provide vital healthcare in remote areas.

Every partner and programme is selected following a rigorous process that considers relevance, impact, innovation, sustainability and cost-effectiveness. At the moment, we do not accept unsolicited requests for funding.

The minimum you can donate is EUR 1 or USD 1.

That depends both on the materials and the needs of the project concerned. Please contact us for specific information.

We monitor the progress of all our projects, fine tuning them if required as they proceed to help ensure they achieve their goals. In some case MSC Foundation also underwrites a project’s funding goal so that the partner organisation and target communities can proceed with full confidence.

All MSC Cruises guests have the opportunity to participate in our projects as volunteers on board. Many of our partner organisations also offer a range of opportunities for volunteers to become involved in their work, for which they should be contacted directly. You can find links to their websites on our partners page.

You can find comprehensive information on all our projects in the MSC Foundation Annual Report and regular updates on our News pages.

Please get in touch using our Contact page. We’ll be delighted to answer any questions you may have as soon as possible.
