MSC Foundation donates to assist flood-ravaged communities in Italy’s Emilia-Romagna region

Responding immediately to the devastating floods that swept the Emilia Romagna region of northern Italy, the MSC Foundation donated 150,000 euro to the Regional Council’s relief efforts.

An intense wave of heavy rainstorms struck Italy on 16 May, causing deadly flooding across the Provinces of Bologna, Forlì-Cesena and Ravenna in the Emilia-Romagna region.

Entire communities were devastated and lives lost as rivers burst their banks and flood waters rose, causing extensive damage to housing and infrastructure that closed more than 700 roads and led to the evacuation of over 4,500 people.

The MSC Foundation made a substantial contribution to the Regional Council’s fundraising campaign "Un aiuto per l'Emilia-Romagna" (Help for Emilia-Romagna), donating 150,000 euro to support the administration’s relief efforts for families struck by the disaster.

"I would like to thank the MSC Group’s MSC Foundation for this important donation,” declared Stefano Bonaccini, Head of the Emilia-Romagna Regional Council. “It’s a further powerful expression of concern and support for the people and communities devastated by the floods in what is increasingly becoming an exceptional operation of collective solidarity, connecting Groups like MSC with a multitude of citizens, associations, organisations and leaders in every sector, from the arts to sport. We thank you with all our hearts.”
